TPF's Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund
Dear Friends and Members of our association,We at Florida Turkish American Association are deeply saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake that struck Kahramanmaras and its neighboring 10 cities with a magnitude of 7.8 last night. The earthquake has already caused over 12,000 deaths and the toll is sadly expected to rise.
We extend our deepest condolences to all families who have lost their loved ones. Our thoughts are with the injured and the families of the victims.
We urge you to join us in supporting Turkish Philanthropy Funds' relief and recovery efforts in Turkiye by donating to the TPF Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund at our fundraising page https://donate.tpfund.org/ftaa. It is important to have an inclusive response to the disaster, as its impact has reached multiple cities in Türkiye.
Let us come together to provide aid and comfort to those affected by this tragedy.
Challenge - as of February 9th, 2023
The affected area by the earthquake is the same size as the entire United Kingdom. Half of Germany.
The intensity of the tremors also brought down tower blocks and public buildings in northern Syria and the quake was felt as far away as Cyprus and Lebanon, both about 250 miles (400km) from the epicenter.
In Türkiye, almost 13,000 people are confirmed to have died, so it will be soon double the number of civilian casualties (killed) in Ukraine. With more than 60,000 people injured and six thousand of buildings destroyed.
There has never been another earthquake that affected such a large area in history. Its area of effect is about 10 times that of the 1999 Gölcük Earthquake.
15 million people are affected, which is a bit less than the Netherlands, or Denmark+Finland+Slovakia combined
Caused a 180 km fracture, a 121 km rift in the earth's crust, which affected 10 provinces, where there were 4 major earthquakes that caused an unprecedented energy discharge equivalent to 130 atomic bombs.
The minimum required fully professional team is between 50 and 60 thousand personnel.
Solution
All donations to this fund will support TPF's Kahramanmaras Earthquake Relief Fund and recovery efforts. We monitor the impact on affected communities and work with partners at
Afet Platformu to allocate funds to where they're needed most. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs emerge, we will support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted partner organizations in the impacted area(s).
How Your Donation Will Be Used
